Gargantuan Blue Dragon - CoverDespite the time since my last post, I haven’t forgotten about you, the loyal readers.

Today I received my Gargantuan Blue Dragon and the first thing I did was take some pictures for those of you that may be waiting for a look before you decide to pick it up yourself.

If you liked the look of the gargantuan black, you’re definitely going to like the gargantuan blue. While neither have anything on the colossal red, the blue has it’s own personality and feel. Be sure to check out the rest of the pics which includes a side-by-side with the gargantuan black.

I have to say that the best thing they did was change the pose the blue has. Both the red and black are in upright stances and another dragon standing up on it’s hind legs would have been a bit boring.

The stalking pose really helps add some menace to the blue’s look. I think my favorite detail on the blue is the tail. Check out the forth picture below and tell me that wouldn’t be a horrendous tail slap to take. My second favorite detail has to be the fact that the purple tongue hangs out of the mouth. You can get a good shot of that in the first pic.

In addition to being a great looking mini that really captures how absolutely terrifying a dragon should be, the pose helps to illustrate the difference between long and tall sizes. Dragons are long – they have less reach than a tall creature of the same size. If this is confusing, take a look at a horse and an ogre. Both are large (so their space is 10′), but a horse only has 5′ reach while the ogre has 10′ reach.

Despite how much I like the gargantuan blue (which is a whole lot, be sure!), I think it’s my least favorite out of the three so far. There’s certainly a lot that I like about it, and I’m sure I’m showing a bit of chromatic elitism as well, but I’ll certainly reach for the colossal red before this and likely the gargantuan black as well.

That aside, I have to say that having the three side-by-side is a damn impressive sight! In addition to that, the ability to put any of these (or multiple) dragons down during a game is awesome. It boggles my mind that any medium creature, no matter their skill or confidence, would ever consider taking on one of these creatures – even with an entire army behind it.

Something to say?
