Another Gargantuan Blue Dragon Pic

Posted by Mike on November 16th, 2006

Gargantuan Blue Dragon Preview 2Came across this pic on a previews article on The Wiz.

It’s not the best pic, but it gives a much better shot of the pose and musculature and confirms what I thought in my previous blue dragon post.

I doubt we’ll see a “really good” blue dragon picture until sometime in December, but for now, I’ll post anything I come across.

Amazon still has the gargantuan blue available for pre-order for just $26. Don’t miss this opportunity to lock in at the low price. If you don’t pre-order before it’s available, you’ll likely miss this large a discount.

Ring of Resilience

Posted by Mike on November 16th, 2006

There are many different types of magical defenses available to those with the time, money and inclination to research them. The Ring of Resilience is no different. It offers some clear benefits to anyone that wears it, but is most powerful when combined with certain key abilities.

A Unique Take On Undead

Posted by Mike on November 14th, 2006

Zombie MonkeyI’m sure many of you have seen the movie Pirates of the Caribbean.

For the few of you that haven’t, the main “bad guys” are a pirate crew that have been damned by an evil curse, turning them all into some form of undead. Normally, they look like regular people. But when they’re exposed to moonlight, their true cursed form is revealed.

Personally, I like some of the nuances of these undead and I wanted to talk about them for a bit. They tend to share many of the classic undead traits, but there are some points that seem unique to this type of undead. If nothing else, it may give you some ideas for sprucing up some baddies in your campaigns.

Sharing Personal Spells

Posted by Mike on November 10th, 2006

If you’ve ever played a spell caster of any description, you know that spells with a range of personal tend to be more powerful spells for their level largely due to this huge limitation.

Short of multi-classing and sharing spells with animal companions or familiars, there’s very few ways to get these spells on other party members. Let’s look at one way to do so.

Gargantuan Blue Dragon - First Picture Spotted

Posted by Mike on November 9th, 2006

Gargantuan Blue Dragon PreviewI was just cruising around Amazon and I saw that the Gargantuan Blue Dragon finally has an image posted.

It looks to me as if the blue is in more of a “stalking” pose while the red and black were in “standing” poses up on their hind legs - which is perfect for the blue. Even from this small picture you can see what should be some amazing detail in the wing muscles.

Amazon has the Gargantuan Blue Dragon for pre-order right now for $26. It retails for $40, so this is a great deal. I’ve noticed them upping the price up after pre-launch for some items, so you might want to think about ordering now. I know it’s a good two months away, but you might as well lock in at close to 1/2 off!

I can’t wait to add this to my red and black!

Lucky Dice

Posted by Mike on November 9th, 2006

D&D has many icons. Anything that’s attributed to the fantasy realm can almost certainly be tied back to D&D in some way. However, if you abstract a bit, up to the level of the player, there’s one thing that we all associate with D&D - and that’s dice.

Not only do dice have an obvious role for players, but for many characters too. There’s tons of historical examples of early dice and dice games. It was a great way for soldiers to pass the time as well as anyone sitting around in a bar. While most people probably ignore playing dice games inside of their gaming sessions, many people do not, and “the gambler” is still a popular character archetype.

Let’s give our gambling player something that’ll help keep them in a soft bed in the finest establishments in town.

Trying Not To Be Hit

Posted by Mike on November 6th, 2006

Concealment is a condition in which the target with concealment is more difficult to hit than they normally would be. Having concealment grants a flat miss chance for attacks made against you. We all know this since it’s a core rules mechanic.

As we all also know, having concealment is great. It’s better than cover in most situations because even if someone that’s trying to hit you has a huge base attack bonus, they still have a blanket miss chance that applies regardless of their modified roll.

Let’s look at a fairly easy way to get a hefty amount of concealment.
