BeholderThe Wiz just posted another Monster Makeover aimed at the Beholder.

As a PC, your first encounter with beholders are nothing short of terrifying. As a higher level PC, beholders aren’t as big a deal and quickly become a quick path to treasure.

Take a good read through this monster makeover as it identifies and rectifies a number of the shortcomings for the beholder. It’s definitely worth the read!

Amulet of the Beating Heart

Posted by Mike on October 26th, 2006

The Amulet of the Beating Heart appears as a beautifully ornate amulet or choaker, usually warn around the neck, with a large blood ruby set in the middle. While it appears to most to be naught more than an exquisite fashion piece, it is in actuality a powerful magic item that allows it’s wearer to stave off death through most means.

Pimp My Bones

Steel DiceThe cornerstone of any geek’s gaming arsenal is their dice.

Dice, in all of their multi-sided variations, come in a plethora of colors and patterns - as well as materials. Most dice tend to come in plastic and in either solid colors, translucent colors or mottled/marbled patterns.

But some dice raise the bar - and thus geek-factor.

Let’s take a look at a few of the options that we got.

Complete Mage - Quick & Dirty Review

Posted by Mike on October 23rd, 2006

I got a copy of Complete Mage a couple of days ago and managed to spend about an hour flipping through and giving it a once-over. There’s a lot that I like and I think it has a few nice things to contribute to spellcasting classes.

Click the link for a breakdown.

D&D Mini Stat Card Downloads

Posted by Mike on October 19th, 2006

The Wiz is releasing the stat cards for all of the D&D minis sets to date. They’re starting out with the Harbinger set and you can download them here.

They’re set to release a new set each week until they’ve caught up with all sets.

For those of you into the minis game, these stat cards can be printed and used in DCI-sanctioned tournaments. You’ll still need the right minis, but it’s nice that they’re allowing you to use the stat cards from the net.

Sounds like this can only be a good thing to me!

Ring of Sly Invisibility

Posted by Mike on October 19th, 2006

Rings of Invisibility are great items all around. Any character can find countless ways to take advantage of it in any situation. While it’s ability to render you invisible knows no limit, the fact that it requires a standard action to activate greatly reduces it’s combat effectiveness beyond the first round. In addition to that, a standard ring will only allow you to stay invisible for up to 3 minutes before you’re forced to spend a round initiating the effect again.

Let’s try to make some changes and see if we can get some more combat uses out of the ring.
